See Live Well Well Eat now

I purchased the small FURminator to use on my small dog, who sheds unbelievably. I also purchased one as a gift to my cousin (who has 6 cats). This deshedding tool actually does what it is designed to do and does it well for dogs and cats. I love it! So does my cousin! The small one works on my short-haired dog and doesn’t dig into her skin. It’s easy to clean off the excess fur as you use it and keeps the hairs together without flying all over the place as you work.

“The Help” is set in early 1960’s Mississippi, just before the Civil Rights movement. There are three major characters, and Sackett takes the story into all three characters’ voices. Skeeter is a young white woman who recently graduated from college and yearns for a job in publishing or journalism rather than becoming the homemaker her mother wants her to be. Aibileen is a black housekeeper/nanny who is caring for her seventeenth white child, but it distraught by the beating death of her own son. Minny, Aibileen’s friend, is also a black housekeeper; Minny has a problem keeping jobs because of her inability to keep her words in check — a very importatn skill for black housekeepers of that time.

Skeeter, with Aibileen’s and Minny’s help, takes on the dangerous project of learning about what life is like for a black housekeeper in Mississippi at that time and writing about it. She assures Aibileen, Minny, and their friends that their names and the location will be changed in the final copy of the project to protect their safety and their jobs, and they meet secretly in different housekeepers’ homes to maintain this privacy. During these interviews, Skeeter also finds out the answer to a question that had troubled her for some time: why did her beloved childhood nanny Constantine suddenly disappear, and where was Constantine now?

These secret meetings, the discovery of the answers to Skeeter’s questions about Constantine, the final copy of the project, and its aftermath show very poignantly how domestic help of that time were treated by their employers.

Though Stockett’s biographical information states that she was raised by a black nanny in lieu of an absentee mother, making her similar to Skeeter, I would have liked to see how she got her information about what pre-Civil Rights era Mississsippi was like. Though Stockett’s nanny could have told her about the time and place, it seems obvious that Stockett is too young to have first-hand information. I wo

Add this one to the pile of classics that weren’t for me. This was another one in my banned or challenged list. While the story was ok, I never found a point to it. It seemed to lack a plot or something. It was an easy read, but I was extremely glad when it was over!

I purchased the Kindle as a gift for my wife, an avid reader. It arrived more quickly than expected and was pre-registered to my account. Prior to presenting the gift, the process to re-register the Kindle to my wife’s account was easy and painless as well as assuring that the device was ‘ready to go’ when she opened the gift.

My wife was delighted with the Kindle and spent several hours familiarizing herself with the embedded operating manual and the device controls. She marveled at how quickly her first book purchase downloaded and found the reading of it to be comfortable. She also quickly quilted a custom cover to protect the device in her purse rather than purchase an available cover. Subsequent book purchases have increased her delight.

It is not often that a husband receives a 5+ star rating for a wife’s birthday gift but her new Kindle scored a big WIN for me!

Lipstain 1 Longevity Berry deal

Amazon had a great price on Windows 7. I think it’s best to keep current with the latest operating systems. So far I haven’t discovered all the neat things it does, but it seems to be efficient and working well.

Happy on system filtration Healthmate airborne

I’ve waited a life time for a vacuum like the Hoover Tempo Widepath! I’ve purchased 4 in the last 8 years, and none of them could come close to the performance of this little darling. And, I can’t believe that it works so well, but costs so little. I never expected such a GREAT product at this price point! As wonderful as the Tempo is, it does have 2 small negatives. 1., the cord is too short, 2. the attachement hose is also too short, and it sucks-in on it’s self. Annoying…yes, but forgiveable because otherwise this vacuum sucks it’s butt off! Cat hair on my carpet is now a thing of the past!
